Quick, Easy, and Adaptable Red Sauce

Updated: Jul 27, 2020

This is my go to red sauce for all occasional! I normally have all the ingredients on hand, however if I'm missing one of the vegetables or I don't want meat in it, the flavor doesn't change too much.

Ingredients:

-3 tbsp olive oil

-3 cloves garlic, minced

-1 tbsp crushed red pepper flakes

-1 Onion, chopped

-1 lb ground meat, (Sausage, Italian Sausage, Beef, Turkey, Chicken) Optional- if you are a vegetarian, just exclude the meat

-Mushrooms, sliced

-1/2 Red Bell Pepper, chopped

-1/2 Green Bell Pepper, chopped

-6 oz Tomato Paste

-1 tbsp Italian Seasoning

-Salt and Pepper to taste

-2 Tomatoes, chopped

Instructions:

1. In a large skillet, heat olive oil, garlic and crushed red pepper of medium high heat. Allow the oil to cook until all the flavors are fragrant, 3-4 minutes.

2. Put chosen meat in the skillet and seperate with a wooden spoon. Allow the meat to cook completely, about 5-7 minutes.

3. Add the rest of the ingredients, except the tomatoes. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer stirring occasionally. When the sauce is simmering, bring the heat to the lowest setting and let cook until the pepper and mushrooms are soft, about 10 minutes. Then add the tomatoes, cook for 2 more minutes.

4. Serve over your favorite pasta with garlic bread, parmesan and crushed red pepper flakes!

This sauce is nice because you can add in or exclude any of the vegetables you want. These are what I like in the sauce, but if you prefer something else add it in at the same time as the tomato sauce.

Also, if you are vegetarian, excluded that meat doesn't hurt the recipe either!
